David Farland's children's story THE BALLOON CATCHER is in production to become an animated short 3D film.

The film will be roughly ten minutes long, and will be one of the first animated shorts released by Kratos Animation Studios under the direction of Jeremy Christensen.

Currently, Christensen is in negotiation with actor Patrick Stewart to narrate the film and musical genius Danny Elfman to provide the score.

Kratos Animation Studio is a new studio that hopes to go toe-to-toe with companies like Pixar and Dreamworks, and has hired top artists in order to compete. The short will be used primarily to wow investors and demonstrate the capabilities of the studio.

Farland wrote THE BALLOON CATCHER as a children's picture book several years ago, but has never tried to publish it. "I realized when I wrote it that I wanted it to be an animated short," Farland said, "so I put it in a drawer and waited for this opportunity."

A second short story, "The Mouse's Christmas," will go into production later this year.

Both animated films will be made available for sale when completed.
